Jeju to promote eco-friendly agricultural practices
Jeju Special Self-governing province is stepping up efforts to promote eco-friendly agricultural practices.  The Jeju government believes growing crops and produce in environmentally friendly ways is a win-win strategy to attract more consumers and to promote Jeju's clean and safe agriculture methods.  So the Jeju government is set to inject 4.75 billion won or about 4.4 million US dollars into Jeju's agriculture industry to develop high-level infrastructure.  Under the plan, farms and agricultural sites will be renovated, and more advanced equipment and infrastructure will be brought in to raise eco-friendly agricultural products.  And the plan not only includes growing safe and clean farm products, it also means that farming facilities will be improved to prevent water or land pollution.  The plan also says farmyard manures made out of animals' excrementitious discharges will be handled in a eco-friendly way.  And to encourage more farms to participate in the eco-friendly farming project, the government will provide subsidies to those who take part in practicing clean and safe farming.  Once approved, a farm could receive up to 794 thousand won or about 600 US dollars per hectare of the land.  The Jeju government will also begin promoting the use of farming materials and equipment for eco-friendly farming to farms across the island.
