※ Hallasan National Park adopted a Nature Recuperation Policy in 1994 to prevent visitors from further damaging the Northwestern wall and Southern wall trails in order to restore and monitor these areas. Therefore, only the Seongpanak Trail and Gwaneumsa Trail are open for mountain climbing. Cooking and camping is allowed in Gwaneumsa  Campground only.
  • Notice for Climbers
    • Camping and cooking is prohibited.
With the exception of the Gwaneumsa Campground, camping and / or cooking are not permitted in the rest of the park area. Please prepare drinking water and light foods before climbing.
    • Nature Recuperation Policy is in effect.
Due to the Nature Recuperation Policy, part of the Eorimok Trail (Witsae-oreum ~ Hallasan Summit) is currently off limits.
The Seongpanak Trail and Gwaneumsa Trail is open for mountain climbing.
    • The weather changes frequently.
The weather at Hallasan changes frequently. It can be clear, foggy, and rainy / snowy all in one day. Hikers are recommended to stay on the marked trails. Off-trail climbing increases the risk of getting lost or becoming exhausted since the park is far from populated areas and it is hard to find clean drinking water. The temperature can change 10℃ over the range of altitude, so it is best to prepare spare clothes in all seasons.
    • Entry / exit hours are restricted by trail and by season.
Hallasan mountain climbing is restricted to single day climbs only, and the entry / exit hours are regulated according to the trail and the season. Visitors are asked to arrive at each of the trail entrances within the specifically designated hours in order to avoid any problems.
  • Climbing Instructions
    • Use only designated trails when climbing in the national park.
    • Hallasan mountain climbing should start and end on the same day. Night climbing is prohibited.
    • Check the entry times for each trail and each season.
    • When climbing in winter, prepare winter clothes, mountain-climbing boots, crampons, alpenstock, gloves, alpine caps, earmuffs, warm water, etc.
    • Pack personal communication devices, extra food, spare clothes, etc. in your backpack before climbing.
    • Wear shoes fit for climbing. Do not wear leather shoes or slippers when climbing.
    • Weather warnings (rain, typhoon, heavy snow warnings and/or alerts) lead to climbing restrictions, so always check conditions before heading for the park.
    • The elderly, children, the physically weak (those with heart, blood pressure, or anemia problems), or people who have had major surgeries should avoid difficult climbing.
    • Refrain from actions that may lead to accidents (sledding, sliding etc.).
    • A fall, while climbing up or down with your hands in your pockets, can result in serious injuries.
    • In case of emergencies, accidents, threats, or dangers call the Hallasan National Park Office or 119 immediately, and check the number on the nearest “Trail Location Sign”. (Note: the distance between 1-1 and 1-2 is 250m.)
    • Collecting plants, insects, or soil and other actions that may damage the national park’s natural environment is prohibited, and will be severely punished according to related laws and regulations.
    • Refrain from drinking, smoking and/or singing loudly in order to maintain a pleasant climbing environment for everybody.
    • Do not bring pets to the park, as they might have an adverse effect on the ecology and/or park environment.
    • Take your litter with you, so that the park remains clean.
    • Cooking and camping in Hallasan is restricted to the Gwaneumsa Campground.
    • If possible, use public transportation when coming to the park, as the parking facilities are relatively limited.
    • The parking facilities are intended not only for drivers but also every mountain climber. Take care so that none of your valuables are stolen, no cars are damaged, and no one is hurt.
    • In addition to the above, everyone should take care of their own safety and give full cooperation to the park’s caretakers.
