The Jeju City municipal government said this week that it will invest money into the renovation of its traditional markets. About 7.3 billion won, or 6.4 million U.S. dollars, will be poured into these planned renovations. Renovations will range from the expansion of parking lots, to revamping bathrooms at the underground shopping complex located near Jungang Road. Additionally, more lanes will be added to the road leading into the Jeju City Five Day Market. The city also plans to train its sales force. About 600 million won, or 527,000 U.S. dollars will be used to build a training service center for merchants. Classes will range from providing effective services for customers as well as ways on implementing marketing strategies. City officials said they also plan to conduct other projects, such as loans for small business owners, to increase the competitiveness and profitability of local markets.
