People over the age 70 will have free rides on public buses in Jeju City and Seogwipo City. Jeju Island had made a prior announcement of the legislation. "The ordinance of Jeju public bus operations" contains the allowance providing free ride of public bus to elders over age 70 due to an idea for the free right of movement and promise of a healthy quality of life. Previously, Jeju Island supported 20,000 won for transportation allowances for people over 65 years beginning in 2007. However, this program was ended with the start of the Basic Senior Pensions Act for the elders over 70 years old, which began January 1st, 2008.
